Foster a Life. Temporarily.
Fostering means providing a safe, loving home while an animal waits for adoption. You choose the timeline. We support you every step.
What Fostering Means at Right Fit Rescue
Fostering is providing a temporary, safe home for an animal while they wait for adoption. At Right Fit Rescue, fosters are part of a coordinated team—never on their own. You choose what you can commit to, and we support you throughout the process.
What that looks like in practice:
- Animals live in your home, not a shelter, giving them stability and routine
- A foster coordinator is your point of contact for questions and support
- We actively handle adoption outreach, screening, and placement
- Your role is care and observation—not finding adopters or making final decisions
Fostering is temporary by design, but its impact is lasting—for the animal and for the family who eventually adopts them.
Time Commitments — Choose What Fits Your Life
Fostering isn’t one-size-fits-all. We offer several foster options so you can help in a way that works with your schedule, space, and comfort level.
Short-Term / Emergency Foster
Provide a safe place for a few days to two weeks during urgent situations or transitions.
Medical / Recovery Foster
Offer a calm home for animals recovering from illness, injury, or surgery. Guidance and veterinary support are provided.
Long-Term Foster
Care for an animal for several weeks or months while they wait for the right adoptive home. Ideal for shy, senior, or special-needs pets.
Flexible / Trial Foster
Not sure yet? Start with a flexible placement that can be reassessed as needs and availability change.
You decide the timeframe you can commit to—and we’ll match you accordingly.
What We Provide vs What You Provide
Fostering works best when expectations are clear. Here’s how support is shared.
We Provide
- Veterinary care and medical guidance
- Adoption marketing, screening, and placement
- Supplies as available (food, crates, litter, etc.)
- A foster coordinator for questions and support
- Training tips and behavior guidance when needed
You Provide
- A safe, indoor space and daily care
- Basic observation and communication with the team
- Transportation to vet appointments when needed
- Patience, consistency, and compassion
- Honest feedback to help us find the right adopter
Is Fostering Right for Me?
You don’t need prior experience—just honesty about what you can offer. If most of these feel true, fostering may be a great fit.
- I can provide a safe, indoor environment for a foster animal.
- I can commit to the timeframe I choose, even if it’s short-term.
- I’m comfortable communicating regularly with a foster coordinator.
- I understand animals may need time to decompress and adjust.
- I’m okay with adoption being the goal—even when it’s bittersweet.
- I can ask for help when I’m unsure or need support.
Fostering isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being present. We’ll guide you, support you, and work with you to find a placement that fits your life.
